ANDY GOLDSWORTHY
- Was born on July 26 1956, is a British sculptor, photographer and environmentalist who produces site-specific sculptures and land art situated in natural and urban settings. He lives and works in Scotland.
- Andy visited El Santuario on February 2018 in order to survey the future P.L.A.S. site.
- As a result, on April 2018 Andy developed a small number of proposals that could be realized individually or as a group. Each work explores the place differently, but collectively they would address the property as a whole.
- If the group of proposals were to be realized, in effect the whole property would become a single work of art and possibly one of Andy’s most important works.
- On June 4th, 2011 the volcano Puyehue dumped forty centimeters of ash on the entire village of Villa La Angostura.
- Andy expressed that “finding the ash throughout the site has been one of the most revelatory experiences I have ever had. The eruption has left a beautiful, brutal, nourishing and destructive layer upon the landscape, which continues to transform the place”.
- All the projects would therefore use volcanic ash.
- Alicia Pardo’s dream to have an iconic work of art created by Andy Goldsworthy at El Santuario came a little closer to becoming a reality but there is still a long road ahead in order to raise donations to help fund the project.
